Some things I love about Kalona, Iowa:
- Walk or bike to nearly every where. Library, PO, banks, General Store, coffee house, hardware stores, Rec Center, City Park, school, groceries, places to eat, dog grooming, ice cream, salons, are all within 1 mile. Walking and biking are pleasant pastimes on the many wide, shady streets.
- A world of organic fresh food: grass-fed beef, free range chickens and eggs, vegetables and fruits grown without additives or chemicals.
- It is a very safe community for raising up children (and yourself!).
- The Kalona Historical Village and Quilt and Texile Museum. The campus where the many historic buildings are grouped is very nicely landscaped. The Amish & English quilt display is new and improved. New this fall: self-guided tours of the many historic buildings.
- The very best place to eat is Tuscan Moon Grill on 5th because their food is always delicious, their wine selection is excellent, their service is gracious, in an beautiful setting, indoors and outdoors.
- Kalona Family Restaurant offers breakfast all day and a wide menu of home cooking. 319-656-2277
There's plenty of specialty shopping and interest: several antiques shops and quilt galleries, The Pink Begonia, Village Shop/P. Buckley Moss Gallery, Kalona General Store, Cherry Blossom Floral & Gifts, Willow Creek, Kalona Antiques Company....
